Where our efforts go
In our Penny War, councils place pennies in their own box, which count positively towards their point score, while paper money and silver coins are used as negative scores towards other councils. The council that has the highest points wins! What is fun about this fundraiser is that the council in last place has likely raised the most money. It’s a council effort that gets everyone working together for a worthy cause.
The United Nations Children's Fund is a United Nations agency responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children around the world. UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence.
The World Health Organization estimates that over 120 million are visually impaired. Eyesight problems can be easily diagnosed, measured and corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery. Yet, millions of people lack access to these basic services. We ask that Student Organizations that attend Topeka Model UN, collect old pairs of glasses from family member, friends, teachers and other students at your school, so that they can be put to good use.
If your organization is looking to get a jump on our glasses donation initiative, contact your local lions club to set up ways your school can donate. The donated eyeglasses collected by your school can help improve the quality of life for communities around the world. Your efforts will go a long way for communities who may not have access to optometrists or to those in lower and middle income areas.
